What if I lose a book?
First of all, let us know immediately so you won’t get any (additional) overdue fines for the book. With regard to replacing the book, you have two options:

  • You purchase a replacement copy. Please get in touch with our acquisitions department ( first to make sure that you are buying the correct edition.
  • The library orders a replacement copy. You will be billed for the cost of the book, plus an additional processing fee of 5 €.
Which overdue fines does the library assess?
Overdue fines are assessed automatically at 0.50 € per day for items loaned by the day or week (1 day grace period) and 1 € per hour for items loaned by the hour (15 minute grace period). Patrons who owe the IRC more than 10 € in fines (100 € for Jacobs University faculty and staff members) will be blocked from checking out.
Fines should be paid in cash at the circulation desk. Paying fines by wire or bank transfer is possible if necessary. For further information please contact us
Notices about overdue items are sent out daily. However, you are still responsible for all fines incurred even if you did not receive an overdue notice.
